Medicare and Medicaid
Open Enrollment Assistance Days are from October 15, 2014 to December 7, 2014

The Commission on Aging is pleased to announce that we are collaborating with the Area Agency on Aging 1-B, the Retired Senior Volunteer Progrm (RSVP), and Diane Frank, certified MMAP counselor, to provide MMAP counseling at our location for seniors, individuals with disabilities and caregivers in your community on the 3rd Thursday of each month. There is no charge for this service. 

Availability is limited.  Appointments are required.
To schedule one-on-one assistance, please call 734-240-3290, leave a message, and Ms. Frank will contact you to set your appointment. 
 
Ms. Frank can address questions on health care benefits and assist with enrollment:
  • Explain Medicare Options
  • Compare Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) and assist in enrollment
  • Review Medigap insurance options 
  • Clarify Medicare health plans
  • Explain Coordination of Employer/Retiree benefits with Medicare
  • Assist beneficiaries in applying for Medicare Part D Extra Help Program
  • Assist beneficiaries in applying for Medicaid or a Medicare Savings Program
  • Provide guidance about unpaid medical bills 
  • Report identity theft, Medicare & Medicaid fraud/abuse, or scams

Adult Day Services

Offers enriching activities in a social atmosphere that stimulates the mind, body and spirit, bringing joy and satisfaction to the life of an individual with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia while providing temporary relief, or respite, for the caregivers.  

Frenchtown Senior Center Adult Day Services

Reduces the isolation of frail older person's and restores a person's level of functioning to his/her highest level.  Foster socialization, peer interaction, and caregivers’ respite.  

Deaf & Hearing Services

Provides the highest quality of comprehensive services for deaf and hard of hearing older adults while promoting their independence and dignity through cooperative efforts with other community-based service providers and educational entities.    
  
Health and Nutrition Services
Living Independence for Everyone

Provides congregate and home delivered meals for older persons to help them live as independently as possible. Liquid meals are provided for persons who cannot swallow solid food.  

Monroe County Opportunity Program - Food Assistance

The MCOP Food Assistance Program offers supplemental food to low-income adults over sixty years of age.  

In-Home Services  

Area Agency on Aging 1-B/Care Management/Community Living Program

Provides unbiased information on local services and resources for older adults, adults with disabilities and family caregivers, has programs to help older adults remain living in the community, and can assist with understanding Medicare benefits.  

Monroe County Opportunity Program-

  • Home Care Program assists Monroe County seniors with homemaking, personal care, shopping, meal planning and/or preparation, and respite care for family caregivers.
  • Home Chore Services assists Monroe County seniors aged 60+ with home maintenance tasks to improve safety inside and outside of the home including snow removal and lawn care.
  • Home Injury Control program includes wheelchair ramps, bathroom chairs, grab bars, etc.
  • Unmet Emergency Needs and Utility Assistance offers assistance with electric, gas and deliverable fuels such as propane. Each utility has its own income limitations.
Resource Advocacy

Resource Advocacy Identifies older adults in need of community services, and acts as their advocates to assist these individuals to find resources that meet their needs.  

Senior Counseling Services   

Self & Family Behavioral Health Care

Provides legal assistance to residents of Monroe County who are 60 years of age or older in the greatest social or economic need.    

Senior Legal Services

Specializes in geriatric mental health counseling, and work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues that span from therapy for depression and grief counseling and beyond to help attain their personal growth.  

Senior Activity Centers  

Ash Senior Citizens

Meets every Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Carleton VFW Hall proving meals, activities, and socialization.   

Bedford Senior Community Center

The Bedford Senior Center is a multi-purpose center that serves the Bedford Township area providing congregate and home delivered meals, activities, and socialization.  

Berlin Senior Citizens

Meets every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the lower level of the Berlin Township Hall providing congregate meals, activities, and socialization.   

Dundee Senior Citizens Center

The Dundee Area Senior Center is conveniently located to meet the physical, social, legal, emotional, and nutritional needs of seniors in Dundee and surrounding areas Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  

Frenchtown Senior Center

The purpose of the Frenchtown Senior Center is to host and plan programs that encourage the older adult to socialize and participate in activities designed to assist them to live more independent and inter dependent lives.  

Milan Seniors for Healthy Living

The Milan Senior Center provides activities, programs, and services designed to enhance quality of life and encourage aging with independence and dignity to Monroe County and Washtenaw County seniors. Noon meals provided three times per week by the Washtenaw County nutrition program.     

Monroe Center for Healthy Aging

The Monroe Center for Healthy Aging is  open 365 days per year and is a one-stop center where seniors and others enjoy a wealth of programming, activities,  exercise, support, information and assistance, social settings, and great food!

Transportation Services  

Health Van

The Health Van provides specialized transportation to non-emergency medical appointments to Monroe County residents.

Monroe County’s only public transportation offers a variety of safe and easily accessible transportation services. All of the buses are lift equipped. In addition to the 8 Fixed Routes, the Frenchtown and Bedford Dial-A-Rides and the ADA service, there is the ETS service (Essential Transportation Service). ETS is a door to door service specifically for older residents 60+ and for the disabled. ETS may be used for any purpose after providing a 48 hour advanced notice.  

MCOP Specialized Transportation

Specialized Transportation provides reliable transportation to non-emergency medical appointments and treatments for senior and non-senior Monroe County residents with a disability or a chronic medical condition.  

Milan Seniors for Healthy Living Transportation

Provides transportation to anyone 50+ years of age, living within the 48160 zip code, can be picked up from their home and brought to the Milan Senior Center and/or anywhere they would like to go (within a 20 mile radius of Milan) for a nominal fare. This demand responsive, door-to-door service is available on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:p.m. and can be scheduled, with at least 24 business hours advance notice, by calling 734-508-6229. 

Volunteer Services   

Monroe County Retired Senior Volunteer Program

Monroe County RSVP is creating an array of volunteer opportunities to put the hearts, minds and talents of over 40,000 age-eligible men and women to work through volunteerism. 

RSVP’s core service areas are health, nutrition, safety and disaster services to assist the older senior and disabled population remain in their homes & helping our children with math, reading and socialization through teaching, tutoring and mentoring. 

You will also find RSVP volunteers engaged in a wide range of other community priorities, all important and in service to people.  

National performance measures guide our efforts to make sure volunteer action makes a difference and creates lasting change.  

Pre-service orientation and training, supplemental insurance, travel reimbursement and credits for meal vouchers are additional perks that assist the RSVP volunteer.  Let’s imagine a brighter future for Monroe County, together.
