Monroe County Historical Museum's 2015 Calendar of Events

APRIL

16th: "Thirdsday" program: Henry Lievens & Beekeeeping, 7:00 p.m. Mr. Lievens is our County Board Chairman. This will be an introduction to the folklore of the tradition and the practical focus of beginning beekeeping, starting a new hive, and maintaining a colony. Free.

18th: Foodsways of Early Michigan, Navarre-Anderson Trading Post complex, 12-4 p.m. Learn more about assorted foodways with demonstrations and information concerning early 1800s foods, methods of food preparation, and uses. A FREE event. Park at the Martha Barker Country Store- North Custer Road at the Raisinville Road bridge.

18th: The Genealogical Society of Monroe County (GSMC) hosts an all-day Open House for visitors- whether you are a seasoned researcher, or just want to know where to start! Stop in from noon to 5 p.m. and talk with the group, introduce yourself to Monroe county (and out of county) sources, and get help using the internet for your search. It's all free, and the museum's archives will also be open, with its unique source of Monroe county obituaries and death notices.

30th: The Monroe County Homeschoolers present a "Living Museum" event open to the public from 6:30- 7:30 p.m. If you weren't able to make our previous Living Museum, here's your chance to experience the hard work these students have done on becoming their chosen historical personas! Free.

MAY Michigan Month- celebrate our great state! Book your school tours NOW- dates are going
fast!

6th: Historical Commission meeting, 7 p.m. use back museum entrance

16th: The Museum will be at Scout-O-Rama, 10-5:00 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, for "The War Is Over" celebrating the end of the Civil War and Gen. George Custer. Stop by our booth.

21st: Friends of the Museum 75th Museum Anniversary dinner at the VFW hall. Cost.

25th: Memorial Day holiday, all sites closed.
