                           PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
With the terrorist attacks of September 2001, and anthrax attacks in the following month, public health staff members have been designated and serve as front-line emergency responders. The need for public health's participation was also evidenced with the devastation resulting from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
Staff members in the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Division train departmental staff, write public health emergency response all hazards plans, develop and conduct exercises to assure that Monroe County can adequately respond to any public health emergency situation. A pandemic flu exercise was conducted October 25, 2006, with approximately 800 people receiving flu vaccinations.
