Explosives
An explosive is a substance, or prepared chemical that explodes or causes an explosion. Approximately 70% of all terrorist attacks worldwide involve explosives.
Even though terrorist bombings are usually unpredictable events, there are steps you can take to prepare yourself and your family so you know what to do if you are in the area of a bombing event. The Red Cross offers guidance on creating a disaster plan.
Before a bombing:
- Know your work, school, and community disaster plans and make one of your own
- Identitfy an alternate hospital you can go to for help, since the hospitals closest to the event are always the busiest and most overwhelmed
The CDC Mass Casualties page offers detailed information on what to do if you suspect someone is going to set off a bomb, what to do during a terrorist bombing, and what to do after a bombing
