Hazardous Waste

Monroe County Health Department is not the regulatory authority in charge of Hazardous Waste, especially as it pertains to businesses.  If you are in charge of a commercial entity, you may be responsible for compliance with laws regarding waste streams.  If you are unsure or have questions regarding your status or handling of your waste, you can contact the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Environmental Assistance CenterEach business must properly label and store all of their hazardous waste.  Getting to know and use the regulations helps your company to not only prevent potential for environmental contamination, but also minimizes risk of costly clean-up or fines associated with violations if inspected by a regulatory authority.  We will be adding resources to this page as we are made aware of them.  The purpose of this area is primarily for businesses to assist in understanding of hazardous waste regulations.
