Natural Disasters
Like most areas, Monroe County is vulnerable to a number of types of natural disasters, including flooding (especially of the River Raisin and the shoreline of Lake Erie), tornadoes, severe thunder storms with hail, blizzards, and ice storms. Monroe County Emergency Management works with state and federal agencies, as well as SkyWarn volunteers, to warn citizens about impending or occurring natural disasters.
