HomeGovernmentDepartments / OfficesYouth Center > Project Second Chance

Project Second chance is a program that pairs youth with abandoned dogs and offers youth a chance to learn proper handling and basic obedience commands that help dogs in the program become more socialized and "adoption ready."  Youth work with certified dog trainer and participate in all aspects of the care and training of the dogs.  Through this experience, youth learn the importance of responsibility, empathy, patience and emotional regulation.  Youth also have an opportunity to see firsthand how their work with the dogs makes a difference in the lives of the dog's new adoptive owners thereby reconnecting them with the community through a positive, pro-social experience.
