Terrorism

Below is some information on awareness and preparedness to various terrorism/bioterrorism risks. More will be added as it becomes available.

CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosive)

Chemical

  • A chemical attack is the deliberate release of a toxic gas, liquid or solid that can poison people and the environment

Biological

  • A biological attack is the deliberate release of germs or other biological substances that can make you sick. Unlike an explosion, a biological attack may or may not be immediately obvious.

Radiological

  • A radiation threat or Dirty Bomb is the use of common explosives to spread radioactive materials over a target area. It is not a nuclear blast. The force of the explosion and radioactive contamination will be more localized.

Nuclear

  • A nuclear blast is an explosion with intense light and heat, a damaging pressure wave and widespread radioactive material that can contaminate the air, water and ground surfaces for miles around.

Explosive

  • An explosive is a substance, or prepared chemical that explodes or causes an explosion. Approximately 70% of all terrorist attacks worldwide involve explosives.
    • Terrorists are working to obtain biological, chemical, nuclear and radiological weapons and the threat of attack are very real+

Bioterrorism
