What We Do

The Monroe County Emergency Management Division provides planning, coordination and resources for effective mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery to all large-scale incidents that occur within Monroe County.

These incidents could result from the following types of disasters:

  • Natural
  • Technological
  • National Security
  • Nuclear
  • Hazardous Materials

We provide a number of services to the County and its 24 jurisdictions, including:

  • Maintain an Emergency Operations Center and an Emergency Communications Center that can be activated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to serve as a central location for coordinating the direction and control of an incident - click on the Emergency Operations Center tab at left to learn more
  • Maintain databases to procure needed resources in an emergency
  • Coordination of public education campaigns
  • Provide emergency notification and timely information to the public in an emergency
  • Coordinate the County's numerous public safety volunteer forces
  • Severe weather monitoring, tracking, and warning notification
  • Maintain a County-wide outdoor warning siren system comprised of 105 sirens to warn the public of emergency events
