The County Clerk is general recorder of various official County records, such as births, deaths, marriages, business and professional registration and Circuit Court records. The County Clerk is clerk to the Circuit Court, is secretary to nearly all official County Boards and Commissions, including Board of Commissioners, and is the administrative official of the County Election Commission.

The Register of Deeds office records official documents affecting ownership such as deeds, plats, mortgages, and land contracts. In addition, recording can be made of other official documents. Digital images are made of all documents recorded in addition to journal records. The Register of Deeds also serves as Chairman of Monroe County Plat Board. Online Portal

Our  Apex systems allows you to fill out applications for New CPL, renewal CPL, Marriage, Business Name, and Notary applications online prior to coming to the office.   An in-person visit is still required to complete the transaction but will save time. You must wait a minimum of 3 days after completing the application online for marriage license to come into the clerk's office to complete the transaction.

CPL (Concealed Pistol License) Information

The Monroe County Clerk's Office is processing new CPL applications during normal business hours. A valid Driver's License / State ID is required. The fee for a New CPL is $115 cash or card ($15 fingerprinting fee included  care processing $5.75) and for a Renewal CPL is $115 cash or card (card processing fee $5.75 fee)

New CPLs

For a new CPL, please bring in all the previously listed items along with your valid training certificate. You will be fingerprinted while here in the office. The fingerprinting process is expected to take around 15-20 minutes. Due to the time requirements for processing both the application and the fingerprints, the County Clerk's office will not be accepting any new CPL applications between 11:30am-1pm and after 4:30pm

Renewals

For a CPL renewal you may file an application online and come in person to complete the transaction, apply online at the Michigan State Police website, or by mail to:

Please Note: Due to the state of Michigan required maintenance on the CPL system, the system will be down every Wednesday from approximately 8 am until 10 am.

The Courthouse is open to the public and although the Monroe County Clerk's Office is open for in person business, you may also file court documents via mail or drop box. Drop boxes are located at the Courthouse, Bedford Sheriff's Substation and Maybee Sheriff's Substation.
