Child Abuse and Neglect

Reporting abuse and neglect - anyone, including a child, who suspects child abuse or neglect, that a child is in danger of physical injury or is living in a seriously damaging home environment can make a report by calling 855-444-3911 24 hours a day. In addition, the Child Protection Law requires certain professionals to report suspected child abuse or neglect. These professionals are known mandated reporters.

Child protective cases are primarily investigated, prosecuted, serviced and managed by the Children's Protective Services and Family Court Divisions of the County Department of Human Services, however, the Court staff carries out these tasks in cases of educational neglect.

The Court has the right to remove children from their families and place them elsewhere or remove parents from the home to maintain a child's safety while the case is proceeding.
