Home Delivered Meals
Persons may be homebound because of illness, disability, or isolation. Some homebound
The first Meals on Wheels program was established in 1954, in Philadelphia.
Today, home-delivered meals are available throughout the country.
They are provided by congregate meal sites, affiliated and
non-affiliated food service establishments,
and other community organizations.
elders may need meals delivered for only a short while, following a hospital stay.
People with more extensive needs may require home-delivered meals in
addition to other community-based long-term care and social support
services. For these people, home delivery of meals is crucial
to their ability to remain independent.

Service ~ Provides hot nutritious meals to home-delivered meal participants and their spouses. Cold suppers are delivered to homebound individuals who are unable to cook for themselves. Ensure Plus nutritional liquid supplement is also available.
Eligibility ~ Seniors age 60 or older who reside in Monroe County. Home delivered meal recipients must provide a doctor's slip within the first month of service and every six months thereafter. For more information, please call 734-242-6800.
Bedford Senior Community Center
Service ~ Prepares and delivers a hot lunch meal to individuals who are unable to shop or prepare the food for themselves or travel to a site where a meal is being served. Does NOT provide special dietary lunches. The client must be home to receive a meal. Additional backup meals are sent when there is a long weekend and for inclement weather days.Eligibility ~ Homebound seniors age 60 or older and persons who are disabled. Requires 24 hours advance notice to order meals. Must reside in Bedford Township. Physician letter verifying homebound status. To register, please call 734-856-3330.
Dundee Area Senior Citizens Center
Service ~ Prepares and delivers regular hot meals to older adults who are unable to shop or prepare the food for themselves or travel to a site where a meal is being served. Offers diabetic meals. Must live in Northwest Monroe County, or Dundee Village, Dundee Township, Ida, Ida Township, Petersburg, Summerfield Township, Raisinville Township, Maybee, Parts of Monroe, and parts of Milan.Eligibility ~ Seniors age 60 and over who are residents of Dundee, Ida, or Petersburg.
