The Sheriff's Office currently has three great lakes equipped crafts that are utilized for patrol of Lake Erie from April through September. Marine deputies are responsible for daily patrols covering approximately twenty miles of Lake Erie coastline in Monroe County. A few daily functions performed by Marine deputies are enforcing state statutes, perform boat safety inspections and livery inspections, and patrol marina patrols during the summer months. Boater safety courses are instructed year round. Marine officers are also involved in search and rescue and recovery operations, and work closely with the Sheriff's dive team in training and emergency situations.

The Sheriff's Search and Rescue Dive Team is administered by Chief Deputy Heath Velliquette. The team currently consists of eight divers who are on call year round, on a twenty-four hour, seven day a week basis. The team trains together every month of the year. Winter training includes ice diving operations and pool sessions. The team works in a different body of water in Monroe County each month for familiarization and preparedness for emergency situations. Other functions of the divers are underwater recovery of evidence and stolen property. Modern equipment and techniques are utilized to ensure safety of the divers and the best possible service to the citizens of Monroe County. A friendship and working relationship is maintained with several similar teams from nearby police jurisdictions including the Downriver Mutual Aid Team, Toledo Police, and Washtenaw and Lenawee County Sheriff's Offices, all whom are available and willing to assist the Monroe team when needed. A proud tradition and sense of camaraderie exists on the Monroe County Sheriff's Dive Team that was founded in 1956.
